How does SealMetrics Calculate Entrances?

What is an "Entrance"?

Updated over a month ago

What is an "Entrance"?

An "Entrance" in Sealmetrics represents an entry to your website. Each time a user accesses your site, a new Entrance is recorded. Unlike other analytics systems that may group sessions based on certain criteria, Sealmetrics counts each access independently.

For example, if the same user visits your website 5 times within 10 minutes, Sealmetrics will register 5 Entrances.

Difference between "Visits" in GA4 and "Entrances" in Sealmetrics

The key difference lies in the method of computation:

  • Visits in GA4: This is a user-based metric, meaning consent is required to collect the data due to privacy regulations.

  • Entrances in Sealmetrics: This is a purely cumulative value that simply counts each access to the website without identifying the person, making it a privacy-compliant metric.

Difference between "Entrances" and "Pageviews" in Sealmetrics

In Sealmetrics, all recorded interactions on the website are considered "hits." However, the categorization of each hit depends on its context:

  • Microconversions or conversions: If a hit has a specific name such as "add-to-cart" or "purchase," it is classified as a microconversion or conversion.

  • Pageviews: If a hit has the same tracked domain as its referrer, it is classified as a "pageview."

  • Entrances: If a hit has a referrer that is different from the tracked domain, it is considered an "Entrance."

Conclusion

Sealmetrics offers a transparent and straightforward approach to measuring traffic without relying on personal identifiers. Entrances provide an objective count of website accesses, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations without compromising data accuracy.

Although this method isnโ€™t as precise as tracking sessions or unique visitors through cookies, it provides a privacy-friendly approach. Even if the same user visits the site multiple times from SEO, each instance is counted as a separate "entrance".
