For SEAL Metrics, a visitor is a click with the following:
- empty referrer
- a referrer with a domain different from your domain.
For example, if a hit is loaded and has no referrer, then SEAL understands this hit is coming from Direct traffic.
On the other hand, if a hit is loaded and this hit has a referrer different than your domain, for example, google.com, l.facebook.com,…. then SEAL understands this hit is not a page view; it’s a visitor.
This system is not as accurate as a session, or unique visitor tracked with a cookie. Even if the same user visits your site three times from SEO, for example, SEAL will count as three visitors.
This is the more accurate way to count visitors while we respect your visitors’ privacy.
